Trip to Auckland War Memorial Museum

For our school trip one of the activities we had was about volcanoes, in one of the rooms we went in it had a cool volcano effect. The room had a cool little volcano, and it had different types of volcanic rocks that came out of the volcano once it erupted. Our group had to make wise choices so they could stay safe in the event they were evacuated. We had 30 seconds to decide what to pack if there was a volcanic eruption near us. Something I found interesting was that in the Museum, there was a section in the Musuem called The Halls of Memories, and it was dedicated to the soldiers who lost their lives in World War I.

Our backpack choices were:

  • backpack
  • toys
  • can of food
  • hole punch
  • torch
  • can opener
  • pan
  • gloves
  • cat
  • muesli bar
  • cat food
  • goggles
  • bottle of water
  • tea towel
  • first aid kit
  • mask

Dilophosaurus Research

LI: to research questions about your dinosaur including their habitat, diet, predators, and protection.

Our challenge was to create a DLO that tells others about the dinosaur we found when we excavated our dinosaur eggs. My partner and I found the skeleton of a Dilophosaurus, what I’d found out is that a Dilophosaurus was one of the largest carnivores of its time. Something I found interesting was that a Dilophosaurus could reach lengths of about 20 feet and weigh around 900 to 1,000 pounds.

Shameful stain on NZ history’: Polynesian Panthers push for dawn raids apology

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation

For Reading, we read a text called ‘Shameful stain on NZ history’: Polynesian Panthers push for dawn raids apology and we were challenged to create a DLO about a provocation about “Should the Goverment of today (2021) have apologised for the dawn raids of yesterday (970s)? Me and Cattaleya was using our smart searching about the Polynesian Panthers and dawn raids and used our own opinions about why they should apologies and why not. I enjoyed doing this acitivty because we get to learn about what happened in the past and what happened in New Zealand.

Dinosaur Eggs

LI: To understand how scientists know so much about dinosaurs.

Our challenge was to create a Google Draw that shows clearly labelled examples of each fossil type. Me and my patren work together to make this egg, the ingerisedsns we used were salt, water, flower and our dinosaur, Its was really fun doing it because after we made it we put it on our window seal and made sure it was dry. After some weeks, we cracked it open, But first we went outside and put it in some dirt thinking like it was there for ages, we took some photos with it. We came upstairs and we cracked it open we made a mess but it was ok cause it was in a box. After we used Adobe express to generate a old picture using it, we used our ideas to add on our egg. Something I found interesting was that we got to learn about dinosaurs and create it.
