Researching Four Types Of Volcanoes

Our task was too get into a group of 3-4 people to collaborate with and to use our smart searching skill to research out the four different types of volcanoes  Shield, Caldera, Cone and Dome, Shield is the type of volcanoe that takes the shape of a shield therefore giving its name “shield” The Caldera volcano  was one of the other volcanoes that has collapsed in itself from recently erupting. The Cone volcano has the shape of cones when the hot magma spews up into the surface turning into lava. The Dome volcano  are shaped like a hill or a big lump ,They are formed when thick, sticky lava oozes out a volcano vent. This lava is so thick that it doesn’t flow very far, so it piles up around the vent creating a Dome shape. What an interesting and fun thing for me about this task is tha I get to share and collaborate with my group and to share ideas to help research about these four types of volcanoes and how they are different along with there different shape.

Living on a lava flow podcast

LI: To use skimming and scanning techniques to find information at speed.

For this task, we are learning about the lava flow and Mt matavanu in our Literacy and Reading of how it unexpected volcano explosion. Mt matavanu erupted between 1905 and 1911, unleashing lava flows that buried five villages and destroyed several churches, Museums and other buildings. We had the to create a a Google vid and podcast about a fact that we learnt about the Mt matavanu text that we learnt/read while having the chance to do it in groups in Literacy and Reading. What I really enjoyed about this group task because of how we get to record a fact that we learnt in the Mt Matavanu text.

Last words from War

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there.

We have been looking at the events that took place at ANZAC Cove on 25 April 1915, during WW1. Many of our NZ soldiers were wounded or killed in action. We looked at videos that showed the  life in the trenches, explored the Walking with ANZACs site and had a chance to read Hami Grace’s diary. Doing this task helped us put our own diaries together. We used Google Vids to record our diary entries. I enjoyed using this as it allowed me to create a better  setting like I was world war 1 and Something I found interesting about this task was being able to record and retell my diary on the google vids and change the settings and add details to the vid and background.

Samuel Marden Podcast

LI: To generate questions that will help us reflect on the past.

For Litreracy we have been using our Inquiry knowlege to write questions for Reverend Samuel Marsden.  We have asked Samuel Marsden to politely come and asnwer the questions that we have created. I enjoyed this activity because we had a lot of fun recording and collaborating as a team.

One thing that we have learnt is that when you have more expression towards what you are saying you look and sound more excited and intresting and you attract more people.

Mapping the Migratory Flight of the Kuaka

LI: To use Google My Maps to show the migratory flight path of the Kuaka.

For this activity we needed to create a map that shows how long the kuaka birds fly for and where the kuaka birds migrate to.

Kuaka birds, also known as bar-tailed godwits, love to hang out near the water, especially in places like estuaries, mudflats, beaches, and coastal marshes, where they find lots of yummy food.

Every year, as winter approaches, the Kuaka fly north to the breeding grounds of Alaska, stopping off in Korea and Japan for a rest and some food on the way. On the return journey, as our summer approaches, they fly directly to New Zealand, a trip of endurance with no food, water, or rest; nearly 12,000 km non-stop.

The Kuaka Infographic

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka.

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was that they are one of the most fastest bird in New Zealand they can fly from New Zealand to Alaska back under 11 days. From this DLO I can see a lot of information about the Kuaka bird Apperance , Fun Facts , Habitat and Diet talking about where it lives and what it eats and super fun facts about it and when did they come to New Zealand.

Dot To Dot Connection: The Kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

As a group create a blog blurb that explains the information in our own words. If you collaborated say what this means and how this helped you combine your knowledge because we know what the definition of words that are simallar to flying and kuaka. Something our group found interesting was how good our teamwork was and how collaborate with eachother because we talked to eachother as a group and helped ones that were sturggling.

Photo Story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

Our task was creating a Photo story of our walk to Pt England Reserve by using the photos from the walk. To create a story by using photos we want to put the photos in the time order by explaining how fun our walk was I always wondered how long the walk took. One thing I liked about our walk was that we had fun playing around and also when we got  back to school and did a fun podcast about what questions we have for Samuel Marsden.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Our challenge today was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves. I found this interesting because I get to learn my Pepeha in Maori because I can learn Maori and understand to help people know what it means and what they are saying. Representing the Maori Culture and where your from making you feel proud of where you come from too.

Expectations

LI: To co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2.

Our challenge today was to co-construct ways we can make the most of our learning time in LS2. We thought about what we expected to happen so we could make the most of our learning time then thought about what our teachers expected.

I collaborated with my group which was Ataahua, Marwan, Donyal and Dito, which I enjoyed because we have created friendship and collaboration between my group. This activity was a good and fun task because my team got to show confidence and show there talent.
